Sandi Toksvig was born on May 3, 1958, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The current Playhouse Presents strand on Sky Arts was conceived by her and she produced and wrote much of the content for the first three years.

Toksvig has written over twenty books including fact and fiction for both children and adults.

Her father’s name was Claus Toksvig, who was a Danish journalist, broadcaster, and foreign correspondent, and her mother’s name was Julie Anne Toksvig. 

By her parents, she was raised alongside her two siblings- an older brother, Nick Toksvig, who is a journalist as well, and a younger sister, Jennifer Toksvig, who writes musicals.

Education, Ethnicity

Due to her father’s work, Sandi Toksvig spent most of her youthful days out of her home country, mostly in New York.

She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark but grew up traveling the world with her family as they followed the work of her father, Claus Toksvig, Danish television's most famous foreign correspondent. She conceived them through artificial insemination, with actor Christopher Lloyd-Pack as the sperm donor. 73" and "The Sandwich Quiz." Her sharp wit and observational humor found a home in comedy panels such as "Call My Bluff," "Mock the Week," and "QI." She also hosted numerous shows on BBC Radio 4, including "The News Quiz" and "Excess Baggage."

Theatre and Television

Toksvig's theatrical talent extended beyond comedy into playwriting.

In 2015, she became a founding member and the inaugural chair of the Women's Equality Party. She had announced with the release of a statement, "I have decided it is time to move on and, of course, I feel sad, but I think it's the right moment. She then enrolled in Girton College, Cambridge, where she studied law, archaeology, and anthropology.

From her College, she graduated with a first-class degree, along with the Raemakers and the Theresa Montefiore Awards for her outstanding performance.
