      He remembered Jones as saying that he was"always wanting us to be something colored. Kenny was once vacationing in Las Vegas during the mid-‘70s and found three groups posing as the Spots at the same time. Why, Paul McCartney, of course.

      Hit after hit in the style of “If I Didn’t Care” came forth from the Ink Spots and Decca, including “Address Unknown” (#1, 1939), “My Prayer” (#3, 1939, later a hit for THE PLATTERS), “When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano” (#4, 1949), “Maybe” (#2, 1949), “We Three” (#1, 1949), “Do I Worry” (#8, 1941), “I Don’t Want to set the world on Fire” (which was #4 in December 1941), and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” (#2, 1943).

      The group broke attendance records wherever they appeared, performing with Glenn Miller’s Orchestra, Lucky Millinder’s Band, and countless others, and they even did films line The Great American Broadcast in 1941 and Abbott and Costello’s romp, Pardon My Sarong.

      None of the six recordings The Ink Spots made for RCA Victor hit the charts. Subsequently, the quartet billed themselves as the Riff Brothers until one day in 1932 when, according to Deek Watson inhis book The Story of the 'Ink Spots,' the group happened upon the idea of the "Ink Spots."Watson told of how he was inspired by a splash of ink from a fountain pen and how he had to overcome the protests of his fellow members.

      Kenny’s versatile vocals attracted Black and white audiences. Early in the decade they traveled to England under contract with promoter and bandleader Jack Hylton,and in 1935 the group signed a recording contract with RCA Victor. This recording reached the number-one spot on the U.S. Billboard pop charts in 1944.

      By the late 1940s, however, The Ink Spots faced both musical and personal problems.

      The instability of a permanent line-up finally forced Kenny to disband The Ink Spots officially in July 1954.

The exception was Jerry Daniels, who-having left the group before its first big hit-became a state excise officer; he died at age 79 in Indianapolis.
