Only one lavish apartment is accessible, and inside hides a secret that reveals much about the truth of the plague. This level uses its architectural design to highlight the contrast between the rich and the poor.
This mission, in particular, while sharing many similarities with "The Masque of the Red Death," also demonstrates Dishonored's most brilliant method of storytelling: level design.

That means you'll have to act like a regular civilian, and performing any of the following actions might ruin your disguise: using powers in front of guests (other than Dark Vision,) firing a weapon, using a lethal gadget, harming an NPC, and trespassing. You don't have a ton of options here; if you're looking to game the system and win the duel by default, you can slow dow time to take out Shaw with ease; his guards might not like that, though, and this may prompt them to attack.

The guests themselves speak of drivlous nonsense, mostly gossip among their peers.
The entertainment the Boyles have planned for the evening is a guessing game. The houses are dead quiet, aside from the muffled shuffling of clothing or the steps of shoes against wood. The blatant contrast between these districts highlights how separated Dunwall's classes are.

At the entrance of the Boyle estate, there is a small group of aristocrats lounging outside the party.
You can typically sneak around the weepers by the bottom of the stairs.
Along the way to the Estate, you'll find a Bone Charm. They are separated by a river canal heavily guarded by the City Watch and Tallboys. He can speak to four notable guests at the masquerade who claim to have information and hints about which sister is which. One in particular, Lord Brisby, even asks Corvo to kidnap one of the Lady Boyle's and deliver her to him for his own sick amusement.
The nobles think themselves above the Rat Plague, but Corvo uncovers the truth at this party, in a single, lonely apartment at the end of the street.
