His leadership journey in this capacity began in 1996 under extraordinary circumstances.
During this period, the National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (NECON) conducted elections across all local governments in Nigeria without any Political Party's involvement, following the military annulment of all Political Parties. He was elected the the vice chairman South West of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2021.
Despite facing threats and intimidation from those affected, Arapaja pushed forward, prioritizing the urbanization and development of the area.
In addition to road construction, Arapaja also focused on enhancing local markets.
Arapaja joined the DPN and once again secured a landslide victory against his opponents in UNCP, NCPN and the other two unpopular Parties. He was elected to represent Ibadan South East and Ibadan North East Federal constituency in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
In 2007, he was elected the deputy governor of Oyo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
