Tanella Boni, poeta y escritora, nació en Abidján (Costa de Marfil). She is a Professor of Philosophy at Houphouët-Boigny University (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire) and a member of ASCAD (Academy of Sciences, Arts, African Cultures, and the African Diasporas).

Her areas of interest include the history of philosophy, feminist philosophy, philosophy and literature, philosophy and the arts, and ethics. Como filósofa e investigadora centra sus estudios en los derechos humanos, artes y culturas, la diversidad cultural, la cuestión femenina y el género, las relaciones entre ética y política, así como el lugar de África en la universalización.

Como poeta, escritora y ensayista obtuvo, en 2009, el Premio Continental (en la mejor categoría autora femenina) y el Premio Internacional de Poesía Antonio Viccaro.

She pursued her higher education in France, studying in Toulouse and at Paris-IV Sorbonne, where she defended two theses in philosophy (ancient philosophy). Her works focus on human rights, feminist issues, and the relations between ethics and politics. Enseñó filosofía durante numerosos años en la Universidad de Cocody en Abidján, ejerciendo, en paralelo, algunas funciones administrativas, en particular, las de Vice-decana de 1993 a 1997.

Fue, además, de 1991 a 1997, Presidenta de la Asociación de los escritores de Costa de Marfil. For several years now, she has been working on the notion of “inhabiting” (Habiter).

The relationship between philosophy and poetry is central to her work. En total ha publicado una veintena de obras (poesía, novela, ensayos, literatura juvenil) entre las cuales se encuentran Chaque jour l´espérance (París, L’harmattan 2002); Les baigneurs du lac rose (reedición colección motifs, Le Serpent à Plumes, 2002); Gorée île baobab (Limoges et Trois-Rivières, El ruido de los otros, 2004); Matins de couvre-feu (París, Le Serpent à Plumes, 2005, premio Ahmadou Kourouma); Les nègres n ´iront jamais au paradis (París, Le Serpent à Plumes, 2006), Que vivent les femmes d´Afrique? (París, Panama, 2008) y Le rêve du dromadaire (poema ilustrado por Muriel Diallo, Cotonú, Ruisseaux d’Afrique, 2009).

Se han publicado algunos extractos de sus poemas en antologías y manuales escolares.

For many years, she taught the history of Western philosophy in her home country.

Boni was a member of the Collège International de Philosophie (1992–1998), Vice-President of the CIPSH (International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences) (2002–2006), a member of the Steering Committee of FISP (International Federation of Philosophical Societies) (2008–2024), and a member of the International Institute of Philosophy (IIP).
