During the expedition, Mustafa Khan had a fracas with Shahji. Mustafa Khan’s hate for Shahaji culminated to its highest peak.
To take the revenge from Shahji, Mustafa Khan with the support of Baji Ghorpade of Mudhol arrested Shahaji at jinji at midnight on 25th July 1648 AD along with his trusted helpmate Kanhoji Jedhe.
Both of them where brought to Bijapur.
He was cremated in town of Channagiri Taluka of Davanagere district of Karnataka. Clothes, rations, arms, ammunitions, cannons and cattle everything drowned. His possessions were reduced quickly. He tried on two occasions, first one after the brutal murder of his father-in-law Lakhuji Rao Jadhav and second in 1636, which was a formidable challenge.
As a precaution Shahajahan, ensured that Shahaji was posted in deep south so as not to pose any challenge to Mughals. This fear caused a dispute between them which finally ended when Shahaji left the service of the Nizamshah in 1625 AD.
Ibrahim Adil Shah II ( 1570- 1627 AD) took advantage of this opportunity and accepted Shahaji as his new army chief.
The life of Shahaji’s family was on stake. Shivaji encouraged farming and cultivation, similarly Venkoji also dug canals in Thanjavur and promoted farming activities. This period of crisis was overcome by sacrifice and personal bonds of the family. Shahaji had one son Venkoji(Ekoji I) by his second wife, who came from the Mohite family.
Soon, the death of Jahangir on 29th October 1627 AD brought a major change in the politics of the Deccan .
Instead of punishing or executing them, Shahaji reprieved all the Rajas. Mughals and Adils were clueless about what was happening. Another Shiv shrine of fame in Maharastra. To defeat Shahaji and rescue Khurram, Jahangir had ordered his commander-in-chief Lashkar Khan to finish off Nizamshahi. His successful negotiation brought Murar Jagdev in his support against the war with Mughal.
Nizam was taken away by Sardar Ranoji Wable (regional sardar of Shah Jahan)to Delhi.
The whole encampment was flooded with water.
