‘Animals’ and rise to stardom
Garrix created the track “Animals” in his bedroom at his parents’ house, and it was officially released in June 2013, when he was only 17 years old.
Martin himself admits that the success of the track came as a complete surprise, with the song having peaked at number one on various charts across the world, including the UK, Belgium and Hungary.
“I was making all my music in my bedroom at my parents’ house and when I made Animals I had no idea what was about to happen,” Garrix told GQ.
“Then the songs started to be played worldwide and it was all very unreal for me.”
Garrix has revealed how he attended Belgium’s Tomorrowland festival in 2013 as a fan and heard some of his favourite DJs play his own song. The label's first release was Garrix's own single, "Now That I've Found You". So, I had the skills and I knew I loved trance music so the logical transition was to produce it.
When he was 17 years old, he headlined the 2014 Ultra Music Festival, becoming the youngest DJ ever to have headlined the event.
The Dutch DJ and record producer has also had DJ residencies at some of Ibiza’s top clubs, including Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza. Martin Garrix performed at the Ultra Music Festival 2014, where he showcased his new and unreleased works, including collaborations with Dillon Francis, Hardwell, and Afrojack.

In 2014, Garrix released the track "Proxy" as a free download on SoundCloud as a gift to his fans.

On March 17, 2015, he released his new single, "Don't Look Down," featuring Usher. “Animals” also became the first instrumental track to crack the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Kenny G’s “Auld Lang Syne (The Millennium Mix)”.
At the time of publishing, “Animals” has been streamed more than 390million times on Spotify alone, and the music video has has more than 1.6billion streams on YouTube.
Since Garrix released “Animals”, he has enjoyed a stellar career, having been placed at number one on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list for three successive years in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Garrix has performed at a number of the world’s top festivals, including Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Tomorrowland and Creamfields.
