He later underwent treatment for alcoholism and sex addiction in a rehabilitation clinic. The couple is still together and has two children: Matthew Edward, born in 1993, and John Owen, who is two years younger. At Santa Monica High School, he rubbed shoulders with future stars Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn, forming friendships that would prove instrumental in his career.

Career

Rob’s television career began in 1979 when he landed the role of Tony Flanagan in the short-lived sitcom A New Kind of Family.

Eventually, he was able to restore his reputation.

In 1991, Rob married Sheryl Berkoff. Sheryl has since become an interior designer and founder of Sheryl Lowe Jewelry.

Rob and Sheryl have two sons:

• Matthew Edward Lowe (born 1993): The elder son chose to stay out of the entertainment spotlight, graduating from Duke University and pursuing a successful career in law
• John Owen Lowe (born 1995): Following in his father’s footsteps, John has become an actor, appearing in projects like 9-1-1: Lone Star and co-creating and starring alongside his father in Netflix’s Unstable

Rob considers his sons his greatest accomplishment and has spoken openly about the importance of family in his life.

In 1985, Rob and Emilio Estevez starred together again in the melodrama "St. Missed something? Following the incident, Lowe took a couple of years off and retreated to Santa Barbara, California, where he overcame a drug and alcohol problem and concentrated on being a family man.

The actor continued to push into new territory the following year, this time taking on the director's chair for the first time in the television remake of the 1956 film The Bad Seed.

'Mental Samurai,' '9-1-1: Lone Star'

A busy 2019 had Lowe hosting the game show Mental Samurai and starring in the short-lived Wild Bill, as an American transplant hired as chief constable of a town in Lincolnshire, England.

He then decided to continue his acting career and, in the same year, accepted an invitation to play the role of Ben Mears in the television miniseries "Salem's Lot," based on the book by Stephen King.

In 2005, Rob played Jack Kilvert in the dramatic miniseries "Beach Girls," which received high ratings on Lifetime History Channel.

His family relocated to Dayton, Ohio, during his childhood, where Rob first discovered his passion for performing arts.

The young actor’s determination was evident early on. Though the show was cancelled quickly, it provided invaluable experience for the teenage performer.

The year 1983 proved pivotal for Rob’s career. Despite critical acclaim and a strong performance from Lowe, 'The Grinder' was canceled after one season, but it showcased Lowe's comedic abilities.
