Rhonda Cornum Biography

U.S.

Army surgeon

Born October 31, 1954, in Dayton, OH; married first husband (divorced); married Kory Cornum (an Air Force colonel and orthopedist), 1983; children: Regan (from first marriage). After the battles in Fallujah, Iraq, in April of 2004, Cornum admitted patients and assisted in the operating room. 5B. His F-15C fighter was shot down over Iraq on the last day of the Persian Gulf War.

Friends and her husband's co-workers gathered around her to help her cope.

ATTENTION VISITORS: the Museum Café is temporarily closed from Dec. 31-Jan.5. No one was in the house,
though, so she shrugged it off as a weird dream. Andrews earned two awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross with "V" for valor in previous Desert Storm actions; one for attacking a heavily defended Scud missile plant and another for providing close air support for a Special Forces team, which was trapped under heavy fire.

"We crashed at 140 miles per hour—there's no way I should have survived that crash. "Maybe I hadn't realized I was missing it, but working for something bigger than yourself just appealed to me." In 1982, Cornum went to medical school at a military school in Bethesda, Maryland, where she met her second husband, Kory, who was in the Air Force; they married in 1983.

Andrews packed up the family and headed
for Andrews Air Force Base, Md., to meet her husband.
