Ramana reddy

Ramana Reddy or T. V. Ramana Reddy or Thikkavarapu Venkata Ramana Reddy (1 October 1921 – 11 November 1974) was an Indian film, character actor, comedian and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema.

His name remains synonymous with laughter, and his memory lives on as a cherished icon of Indian cinema’s golden age.

S Ramana Reddy, former Managing Director of the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), has been conferred the prestigious Hydro Ratna award for his exceptional contribution to the promotion of Pumped Storage Power (PSP) projects in the state.

Reddy’s visionary leadership at NREDCAP has been instrumental in identifying and developing a pipeline of 39 PSP projects in Andhra Pradesh.

However the movie that released first was Deeksha produced and directed by K.S.Prakasa Rao. (He has not acted in Mayapilla as is mentioned as his first movie erroneously by some film historians). Under his guidance, the organization prepared detailed project reports (DPRs) for these projects, secured necessary clearances from central and state government agencies, and created a conducive environment for private investment in the PSP sector.

The Hydro Ratna award, presented by ENERTIA and the Renewable Energy Promotion Association of India (REPA), acknowledges Reddy’s pivotal role in addressing the intermittency challenges posed by solar and wind energy.

He used to perform magic shows and helped many voluntary organizations. Reddy is the paternal uncle of Indian politician, and filmmaker T. Subbarami Reddy.

He has debuted in 1951 with the film Manavathi directed by Y.V.Rao (Yaragudipati Varada Rao) and produced by his friend A.Sankara Reddy from his native district, Nellore.

Subbarami is the popular film producer, industrialist as well as a political person. During the Tollywood era, he performed double roles with actor and comedian Relangi.

Reddy’s recognition serves as a testament to his dedication and commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions. He gave more than 100 magic performances, mostly in aid of educational institutions and voluntary organizations

He worked as a sanitary inspector before becoming an actor. He learnt it by practicing himself and did it part time.

His versatility as an actor allowed him to effortlessly transition between comedic roles and more serious characters, showcasing his range and depth on screen.

Among his notable performances, Ramana Reddy immortalized characters such as David in “Missamma” (1955), Karanam in “Rojulu Marayi” (1955), Chinnamaya in the timeless classic “Mayabazar” (1957), and Kanchu Gantayya in “Gundamma Katha” (1962).

He was born in the year 1921 in Jagadevi Peta in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He has acted in 200 plus films and at the age of 53, he lost his life.
