Early Life

Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike(born October 9, 1986), known professionally as Phyno, hails from Anambra State but was born and raised in Enugu State.

Supported by singles like “Agu” and “The Bag,” “Deal With It” showed Phyno’s continued growth in the music industry.

In July 2021, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuikereleased the single “Bia,” continuing his trend of consistent music production. The song, produced by WizzyPro and featuring P-Square, had its music video directed by Jude Engees Okoye.

Opeoluwani Akintayo of The Daily Times of Nigeria gave the video an overall rating of 8 out of 10, praising its usage of props.

Phyno’s collaborative album with Olamide, titled 2 Kings, was released on 1 April 2015. The album featured collaborations with artists such as Olamide, Falz, Davido, Don Jazzy, Zoro, Runtown, and Teni.

Originally from Enugu State with familial ties to Anambra State, he is renowned for rapping in the Igbo language. The track was a hit, winning Best Collaboration at The Headies in 2012 and again at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. On 7 December 2012, Phyno released the music video for “Ghost Mode”, which was filmed in Lagos by Clarence Peters.

Phyno did a collaborative album with Olamide and they both announced it’s release on social media which was scheduled for the 1st of April 2015. The album featured collaborations with artists such as Olamide, Falz, Davido, Don Jazzy, Zoro, Runtown, and Teni.

His family background was modest, and while they were not directly involved in the music industry, they supported his musical pursuits. Through out his secondary school days, he played the piano and drums. Still, the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation banned it from broadcasting the following month. He also joined the 2013 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour, sharing the stage with notable artists like D’banj, Burna Boy, Chidinma, Vector, and others.

Clarence Peters directed the music video for Phyno’s song “Alobam”, which was released on May 22, 2014. Phyno had an interest in music production during his secondary school years. On October 11, 2013, the album’s third single, “Parcel” (originally titled “Parcel (a Big Nwa)”), was released.
