The S&B: What’s the biggest difference you see between writing for TV and writing novels?

NTS: Well, writing the novels, it was just so singular. I did enjoy it, but I enjoyed it because of the team I put together.

And there are a lot of people who aren’t, and they don’t know better, and they do it. The S&B: What draws you to the crime/noir genre?

Nichelle Tramble Spellman: Well, with “The Dying Ground”, I initially wrote that as a coming-of-age novel. And if we both acknowledge that we’re scared, then we’ll treat the material respectfully.” We signed Octavia from the pitch and Aaron and Lizzy from the pilot script.
