Meghna Gulzar's stint with writing began in 1989 while she was studying in St Xavier College, Mumbai. After completing her graduation in Sociology, Meghna worked with noted filmaker SaAkhtar Mirza as an assistant director. She wrote as a freelance writer for the The Times of India and the NFDC publication Cinema in India.

Her poems too, have been published in anthologies of the Poetry Society of India. explores the journey of Gulzar, famed director, lyricist, screenplay writer, short story writers and what he first and foremost wants to be known as a poet! In 1995, she went on to do a short course in filmmaking from the Tisch School of Arts, New York University, New York.

A graduate in sociology from St Xavier's College, Mumbai, Meghna assisted noted film-maker Saeed Akhtar Mirza on the National Award-winning film, Naseem; and then went on to do a short course in filmmaking from the Tisch School of Arts, New York University, New York.

She assisted her father on Maachis and Hu Tu Tu.

Along with scripting her own films, Meghna has made documentaries for Doordarshan, directed videos for several music albums, and also anchored several TV shows including The Amul India Show.

Her first feature film, Filhaal… (2002), addressed the issue of surrogate motherhood. Manekshaw MC, was released in 2023.

Meghna Gulzar began her professional career in 1989 as a freelance writer for The Times of India.

Meghna's feature film Raazi had received both critical acclaim and audience appreciation, becoming one of the biggest box-office hits of 2018.

After completing her graduation in sociology, she worked with noted filmmaker Saeed Akhtar Mirza as an assistant director, and later she joined her father as an assistant on his films Maachis.

After debuting as a screenwriter with her father's 1999 directorial Hu Tu Tu, Meghna directed her first film, the drama Filhaal in 2002 followed by Just Married in 2007.

Following an eight-year sabbatical, she directed the critically acclaimed Talvar in 2015, which earned her Best Director nominations.

In 2018, she directed the thriller Raazi which turned out to be a commercial as well as a critical success.

Meghna is also well known for directing the film Chhapaak, a biopic on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

Upon her return, she joined her father writer director-director Gulzar, as an assistant on his notable films Maachis and HU Tu Tu. Meghna simultaneously began scripting her own film along with directing documentaries for Doordarshan and music videos for several music albums
