The artelino company was founded in 2001 and sells Japanese prints (ukiyo-e) from all periods and contemporary Chinese prints in weekly online auctions on www.artelino.com.

I was so deeply inspired by his works that I immediately started to study the world of woodblock printmaking. I can't forget the thrill of selling my first work.

Collectors familiar with Japanese prints might draw comparisons to the shin hanga movement of the early 20th century.

There is nothing wrong with artists creating works that are beautiful and accessible.

Idô's first woodcuts appeared in 1972, the same year he studied printmaking in Kyoto with the painter/designer Ôtsubo Shigechika (1899-1998), who was a graduate of the Tokyo Fine Arts School (Tokyo Bijutsu Gakkô, 東京美術学校 in 1921).

He is known for creating works that reflect a strong sense of place, often inspired by Kyoto’s temples, gardens, and preserved streetscapes. I instinctively create the colors on the palettes. Ido captures serene gardens, iconic landscapes, evocative scenes from Bunraku theater, and the nostalgic beauty of old Japanese villages with remarkable clarity and emotional depth.

Want to sell them? I made drawings with dye-inks and wax on hand-made paper, and called them 'batik'. At the same time, I thought of owning a gallery which would exclusively show woodblock prints. While Ido Masao’s prints do not directly imitate the shin hanga style, his thematic choices echo that movement’s romantic vision of Japan.

Favored themes often contained evocative references to nature and the seasons, were were drawn from Japanese literature.
