To Lucille Ball's left in the thumbnail picture is her second husband, Gary Morton. Even after their divorce in 1960, Desi advised Lucy on her first followup series after the end of their landmark collaboration, "The Lucy Show" with Vivian Vance (1962-68). Outside, cameras waited, but inside the church, it was just Lucy, Desi, and the echoes of a love story that had shaped both their lives — and touched millions around the world.

It was a goodbye steeped in both gratitude and grief, a reminder that behind the laughter of I Love Lucy were two real people whose bond was deeper than television could ever capture.

A short 2-minute video excerpt of the funeral of Desi Arnaz in 1986, from a local California news station.

Lucy was one of hundreds of Hollywood stars who accepted Father Patrick Peyton’s invitation to act in or host an episode of the Family Theater of the Air Radio programs. Bing Crosby, Loretta Young, Gregory Peck, Rosalind Russell, Raymond Burr, Ann Blythe, Princess Grace, even Ronald Reagan and old time favorites, Fibber McGee and Molly appeared on the shows.

Since the middle ages, Lucy has inspired festivals of light, especially in northern climates. (You don't need a Facebook account to view.)

.

In interviews, Lucy always emphatically praised Desi, emphasizing that he was much more than a "bongo player". Off screen, they were husband and wife for 20 years, business partners, and co-creators of I Love Lucy.

Television owes him a tremendous debt of gratitude, and no one, but no one, has ever come close to the kind of TV Desi brought with Lucy to this industry.”

The second person speaking in the video is daughter Lucie's husband Laurence Luckinbill.

I can't imagine what Lucy was feeling that day. From the microphone he asked the congregation to stand and repeat after him three times, as loudly as they could three words: I LOVE LUCY!

It's unusual to see Lucy so serious. They did, and blew the top of the Church off, figuratively. In his final years, Desi often spoke fondly of Lucy, and she never missed a chance to acknowledge what they had created together. Every episode featured a major Hollywood personality, a full drama with beginning, middle and end and concluded with a powerful reminder that “the family that prays together stays together.”

There is another Lucy to celebrate today.

Behind them are Lucie Arnaz and husband, Laurence Luckinbill. This Lucy's life is shrouded in mystery.

At the conclusion of the funeral Mass for Lucille, the pastor of Saint Monica’s parish turned to a gentleman in the congregation, the well-known founder of the Crystal Cathedral and the Hour of Power Television show, saying: “Rev.

However, we do know that she was a young, noble woman of Syracuse, Sicily, martyred for the faith and virginity around the year 304 A.D.  We invoke her as the patroness of blind people. Please invite your loved ones to join us too!

Danny Thomas gave the eulogy: ″I will never, ever, ever forget his tremendous help to me.
