Not only did he make an impression in the challenges, but his commentary was shockingly intelligent and enlightened. King Of The Nerds also spawned a British adaptation that was similarly short-lived, lasting for just one season.

    Waste of time

After hearing that this show was a successor of sorts to "The Big Brain Theory," I figured I had better check it out.

The runner-up was shockingly good at everything yet didn't win the final popularity contest due to simple revenge by the losers. The winner did NOTHING the entire show other than sit in the corner. For her troubles, Kayla took home the title of King of the Nerds and a cash prize of $100,000.

Unfortunately, King Of The Nerds proved to be a short-lived series.

The series sees self-professed geeks and nerds from across the USA come together to compete in a range of tasks that prove they are the nerdiest of all the nerds in the land.

The second season of King Of The Nerds aired in 2014 and was filmed at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. The “Nerd War” and “Nerd-Off” challenges featured typically geeky tasks like building a robot fit to survive a game of dodgeball, taking part in a spelling bee or competing in a debate over which is better – Star Trek or Star Wars.

    A huge disappointment

I was really looking forward to this show from the first time it was advertised. The commercials made it look like it was going to be the new rave in reality television.

    .

Sure, "The Big Brain Theory" had the usual stupid reality TV components that will rot your brain and lower your IQ, but they counter balanced that with some really great challenges which got those neurons making plenty of new connections.

WELL, the "King of the Nerds" is basically just 100% brain rot.

Gamer Xander Jeanneret, historian Brian Davidson and bioengineer Jack Hou all made it to the final but it was rocket scientist Kayla LaFrance that won season 2 after defeating runner-up Jack in the final “Nerd-Off” challenge. They simply have a reality TV formula that they are regurgitating over and over.

I have always fit very securely in the nerd demographic.

King Of The Nerds Season 2: All Contestants & Winner

Here’s every contestant who competed in King Of The Nerds season 2, plus who was crowned the winner. Although the reality show aired a third season in early 2015, it was cancelled by TBS later that year due to a lukewarm reception and falling ratings.

My IQ went down quite a few points during this show's run. Fortunately, I've kept all my college textbooks and was able to recover in about 10 minutes of studying.

If you analyze this show carefully, you will realize the producers really don't have the proper background to make an "intelligent" program.

Read on for a rundown of each contestant in order of their elimination, finishing with the winner of King Of The Nerds season 2.

    Kelsey Syers

    Josh Wittenkeller

    Mary Kate Smith

    Nicole Evans

    Katie Correll

    Chris Jackson

    Zack Storch

    Xander Jeanneret

    Brian Davidson

    Jack Hou

    Winner: Kayla LaFrance

Kelsey Syers, a Japanophile hailing from Georgia, was the first contestant eliminated from King Of The Nerds season 2 after failing a Quidditch-inspired duel and was swiftly followed by gaming vlogger and Pokémon expert Josh Wittenkeller.

TBS reality TV show King Of The Nerds is inspired by 1980s flick Revenge Of The Nerds and hosted by two of its stars – Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong, who played college geeks Lewis Skolnick and Dudley “Booger” Dawson in the teen comedy. Our taste in entertainment these days IS quite a sad commentary on our culture and proof that there is little innovation but plenty of exploitation.

A final thought: of the participants that got enough screen time to get to know, I have to say Ivan really stood out.

If I were CEO of a large corporation, I'd hire him in an instant. As with its first season, the reality show had contestants compete as teams in challenges known as “Nerd Wars,” after which the losing team selected two of its members to go head-to-head in an elimination round called the “Nerd-Off” with the loser leaving the contest.
