Introduction

Jagjit Singh, fondly remembered as the “Ghazal King of India”, was one of the most influential and soulful singers, composers, and music directors in Indian music history. The couple formed an iconic musical duo and gained immense popularity for their melodious duets.

In an interview, he recounted his return to Jalandhar,

I travelled by train from Bombay to Jalandhar minus a ticket, hiding in the bathroom.”

• In 1965, Jagjit returned Bombay and tried his luck again in playback singing. On October 10, 2011, he passed away due to a brain hemorrhage, leaving behind a rich legacy of timeless music.

  His ghazals continue to be loved by generations, making him an immortal figure in Indian music.

  He was cremated at Chandanwadi Crematorium near Marine Lines in Mumbai.

  In 2011, Jagjit Singh was due to perform with Pakistani Ghazal and playback singer, Ghulam Ali during his UK tour but suffered a brain haemorrhage on 23 September 2011.

  In an interview, sharing his memory, he said,
  

  When I sang there was great excitement! Jagjit Singh made the efforts to come with his first album titled "The Unforgettables", which was a collection of semi-classical Indian music. The album can be easily called as a masterpiece.

  

  He then went on to earn a post-graduate degree in history from Kurukshetra University.
