My director was always complaining on set. Ronke Oshodi almost fit the role but she was too big in stature for Jenifa’s character. Funke Akindele’s big break came in 2009 from the movie titled Jenifa. She started with co-owning SceneOne Productions. Because a lot of people from the ghetto – the pick pockets, touts, the young people that came to rob me when I was shooting Omo Ghetto, are so young.

She is the second of three children (two daughters and one son). They were teenagers. In 2010, she starred in the gangster two-parter Omo Ghetto, a cult hit that had a significant impact on Yoruba pop culture at the time.

She has now gone on to create and feature in several Yoruba films, cementing her reputation as a household name in the region.

I hope they’ll be given another chance. She obtained a law degree from the University of Lagos.

Akindele rose to prominence after appearing in the popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know, which aired from 1998 to 2002.

Funke Akindele: That was a very trying moment. My mum is a gynaecologist, my father, an educationist. Not by might.

According to information gathered by DNB Stories Africa, Funke learned about the end of her marriage via a phone call while on a movie set.
