Though the drama teacher at this preparatory school sparked his interest, Dillon was more attracted to what he described as the comparatively less disciplined activity of making music with his friends.

After a year at Queens University, he was kicked out for drug use and spent a year in London, England, busking on the street for money, playing his own songs.

He mostly performs as the group's lead vocalist, beside Trent Carr, Tim White, and Trent Carr. During his music career, he also contributed as a record producer, including work on the Canadian rocker-themed film The Rubber Gun, and composed music for various television productions. And so, The Headstones disbanded in 2003, and Dillon abandoned the entertainment industry.

He was chopping trees in Northern Canada when he was offered the role of Bob opposite Vera Farmiga in Debra Granik's "Down to the Bone" (2004).

Before him are Jeff Healey (1966), Devin Townsend (1972), Sarah McLachlan (1968), Shawn Drover (1966), Chilly Gonzales (1972), and Guy Lombardo (1902). Before him are Rajmond Debevec, Petra Pau, Monica Frassoni, Yousuf Al-Thunayan, Rıza Çalımbay, and Greg Howe. Dillon first rose to fame in the 1990s as the lead singer of the Canadian rock band Headstones.

Success with Headstones and Music Career

Dillon began fronting the hard rock band Headstones in 1987.

In 2005, they released the album The High Cost of Low Living.

In 2009, Dillon released a solo album titled Works Well With Others, further showcasing his range as a musician. He helped the band to record its first studio album, "Picture of Health", which was later certified Platinum in Canada.

Some of the group’s albums that he participated in include "Teeth and Tissue" (1995), "Nickels for Your Nightmares" (2000), and "PEOPLESKILLS" (2019).

As an actor, it is recorded that he picked up his first significant acting role in 1994 in a drama film titled "Dance Me Outside", where he was cast as Clarence Gaskill.

Achievements

His role in "Flashpoint" birthed him the "Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role" at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.

He was bestowed the "Canada First Award" at the 2016 Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival for his appearance in the movie titled "The Offer".

At the Gemini Awards, his performance in "Durham County" earned him a nomination for the "Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role" in 2011.

This pattern would continue as Dillon appeared in "Johnny" (1999) and then The Headstones released The Oracle of Hi-Fi in 2002.

Unfortunately, Dillon was struggling with drug addiction during much of this time. They released the album Picture of Health that same year, and began growing in popularity, even as Dillon began to receive acting opportunities, starring in Bruce McDonald's drama "Dance Me Outside" (1995).

Another Headstones album came in 1996, Smile and Wave, along with another starring role, this time in McDonald's punk rock road trip film "Hard Core Logo" (1996).

A multifaceted talent, he has gained recognition both as an actor and a musician. His performance in the indie film Down to the Bone also earned acclaim after the film received honors at the Sundance Film Festival.
