Following her husband’s advice, Hajara visited the Atiku Abubakar Primary Health Care Centre in Yola North LGA, where she met with family planning service provider Arziki Daniel.

Her mother has been supporting the family through the income she generates from sewing, an income source that supported Hajara to complete Junior Secondary School and gain admission to Senior Secondary School. They also learnt about the values of ethical leadership: integrity, transparency, accountability, gender equality, autonomy and choice. Arziki also highlighted the importance of child spacing, saying it allows mothers to regain their strength, care for their babies, and be better prepared for subsequent pregnancies.

Both Hajara and Arziki called on more women to take advantage of the free services offered across the state and make informed decisions for a healthier family life.

At the class of the younger adolescents, conversations about whether leaders are born or made generated so much incredulous responses that left the facilitators holding their stomach from exploding as a result of laughter.

“I’ve been able to space my children properly, take care of myself, my children, and my husband. It was resolved that leaders are “made” and not “born” even if they were born into royal households.

Now back to school with support from CASFOD, Hajara is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a medical doctor. There, she received counseling and chose to use the implant.
