Actor and comedian Gad Elmaleh headed to France via Canada from his native Morocco to launch his career.

Elmaleh's father was also a performer, specializing in mime. His father, David Elmaleh, was a trader and practiced pantomime as a hobby.

Career

Gad Elmaleh had his first film role in the Algerian director Merzak Allouache's feature film "Hello Cousin!" in 1996. NOTICE!! Elmaleh left Casablanca for Montreal in 1988, then moved to Paris in 1992, where he studied at a famed drama school called The Cours Florent.

Elmaleh then put together a one-man show in 1996, "Décalages," about his experiences in Montreal and Paris.

Gad Elmaleh began his career in Montreal, performing his first comedy show in 1994 for a small audience, a milestone he later celebrated with a 2024 homecoming show at Montreal’s Centre Bell.
