She was elected by the Pakistan People's Party. PresidentAsif Ali Zardari, who succeeded Pervez Musharraf in 2008, said the appointment was "a demonstration of the government's commitment to bring women into the mainstream of national life".
In the early stages of her career, she was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary and subsequently served as Minister of State for Economic Affairs, where she actively contributed to fiscal policymaking and coordinated international aid during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
In 2007, after being denied an electoral ticket by the PML-Q, Khar joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), under whose banner she was re-elected to the National Assembly in 2008.
Pakistan continued to ask for an apology from the U.S. On 6 June 2012, Khar said that "higher principles should be more important than popular political ideas." She challenged the U.S. to "live up to its democratic ideals" by respecting Pakistan's elected leaders.
On 21 January 2012, Khar traveled to Moscow to make relations with Russia stronger. On 19 April 2022, she joined the Shehbaz Ministry.
She has also written articles for Newsweek Pakistan. Her father, veteran politician Ghulam Noor Rabbani Khar, had represented the constituency previously, but he and most of the members of her family had been disqualified. She also spoke about working together and supporting efforts for peace in Afghanistan. She started her political career in 2002 as a member of the national assembly.
She held peace talks with her Indian counterpart, S. M. Krishna. She held a special seat reserved for women.
Early Life and Education
Hina Rabbani Khar was born in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Economics. She served as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from April 2022 to August 2023.
She also worked to reduce Pakistan's energy debt.
Becoming Foreign Minister
Hina Rabbani Khar was appointed as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on 11 February 2011. In 2012, she delivered a lecture there on "Foreign Policy and Young Democracy", and secured funding for the Abdus Salam Institute of Physics.
In the 2002 general elections, Khar was elected as a member of the National Assembly, representing the NA-177 (Muzaffargarh-II) constituency in Punjab.
She is of Jat/Kharal ethnicity and practices Islam.

Career
Hina Rabbani Khar commenced her political journey after obtaining a BSc in Economics from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and an MSc in Business Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
She is a niece of Ghulam Mustafa Khar, the former Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab.
Khar is a graduate of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) where she holds a BSc (with honors) in Economics conferred in 1999. She was, then, reappointed to this role in 2022 by the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
She is a Pakistani stateswoman.
