From time to time, I like to write and comment on sport.  What’s more, I have covered Olympic games, football and world athletics championships for the last 14 to 15 years. Later on, he got a job as a physical education teacher. Ethiopia’s Ministry of Sport and Culture, Ethiopian Football Federation, Ethiopian Athletics Federation and Ethiopian Sport Journalists Association are some of the organisations that reacted to the sad news by celebrating his immense contribution for the development of sports in Ethiopia.

A MAN OF CULTURE International Sports Press Association (AIPS) President, Gianni Merlo, said, “I am very shocked by the news.

Kidane was also the Secretary General of the African Sports Journalists Union (1970-1974), member of FIFA Press Committee, director of the executive office of the president of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and The Department of International Cooperation.

He helped Ethiopia organise the 1968 and 1976 Africa Cup of Nations in Addis Ababa.

I was helping promote African football. He worked as a correspondent for the BBC, Voice of America, DW and Radio France International and many more publications. Fekrou, Ethiopia’s first sports journalist, first live football commentator (1957), founder of African Sport Journalists Union, author, teacher, pioneer and celebrated sports administrator had passed away at his place in Paris, France.

CONDOLENCES Condolence messages have been pouring in from every corner since the news of his passing surfaced on social media.

After a while, he became the first Ethiopian sports journalist in 1957. Egypt, Morocco as well as FIFA took issues with the way TV rights were awarded. Because the right was sold for a Qatari company without a bidding process, and I think they were not thrilled with that. He was sent to the United Nations Mission in the Congo. His father was a fan of the St.

How was your time with CAF?

I was in CAF as delegate of the Ethiopian Football Federation or as a commissioner because of the late Yidnekachew Tesema. He also started sports programs on Radio Ethiopia. He used to write articles on sports in all newspapers, and since no one was interested in sports, he was pushing newspaper editors to run articles on sports.

So, he made a tour of Africa during the campaign. Additionally, he provided lengthy service in senior roles at the International Olympic Committee and the CAF.

In addition, Fikru is well known for his book “Yepiasa Lij,” a history of modern Addis Abeba that focuses on the city’s urbanization drive in the 1960s and 1970s.

Additionally, Fikru served as a longtime counselor to Issa Hayatou, a former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In 2018, the African Sport Journalists Association’s founder, seasoned sports journalist Fikru Kidane Kidane, was given “A Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Ethiopian Sports Journalists Association (ESJA).

He was born in Addis Ababa in 1935.

I am also involved with many international organizations as a volunteer.

How did you find the 39th CAF General Assembly?

Well, there were outside forces like Egypt, Morocco and FIFA.  Most African countries didn’t support the current FIFA president, Gianni Infantino. He also served as a translator in Ethiopia’s UN mandated Peacekeeping Mission in Congo.

ILLUSTRIOUS JOURNALISM CAREER He worked for French newspapers France Football and L’Équipe.

Fikru Kidane provided greatly to Ethiopian sports and journalists since he cared so much about both fields of endeavor.

In addition to his job as a journalist, Fikru served as an employee of the Ethiopian Football Federation and founded and served as president of the Ethiopian Sports Journalists Association as well as the African Sport Journalists Association.

Firkru served as the Ethiopian Bicycle Federation’s Secretary General as well.

But, what I really dislike is to be a tool for outside forces. Africa is known for corruption.
