Opera has been a strong presence throughout Jensen’s career.

He has also conducted operas like Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress at the Aix-en-Provence Festival (Summer 2017) and Oedipus Rex performed as a concert together with Strauss’ Elektra at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki (Autumn 2019). November 2021 Gullberg Jensen conducted Norway's first opera – Fredkulla (1858) by Martin Andreas Udbye – in a concert version with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera.

From the 2022/23 season he will – in addition to Artistic Director of BNO – also be the new Chief Conductor The North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO) in Groningen.

He lost the election, but in debating with Douglas he gained a national reputation that won him the Republican nomination for President in 1860. In 1858 Lincoln ran against Stephen A. Douglas for Senator.

As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization.
