Opera has been a strong presence throughout Jensen’s career.

November 2021 Gullberg Jensen conducted Norway's first opera – Fredkulla (1858) by Martin Andreas Udbye – in a concert version with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera.
From the 2022/23 season he will – in addition to Artistic Director of BNO – also be the new Chief Conductor The North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO) in Groningen.
