I am not retiring. I particularly would visit them in their houses and eat.
Dele Momodu received his early schooling at a local authority primary school in Ile-Ife. Since then, he has developed Ovation International, making it one of Africa’s most well-liked celebrity publications. As a musician, I had my time. He was to be detained and tried for treason by the Sani Abacha regime, which was in power at the time, in 1995.
There is no major threat to what has been happening in my life because I still perform regularly on the stage.
What were the habits you were engaging in at a much younger age that you have renounced now?
Honestly, I still maintain old habits (laughter).
He played a mixture of highlife, juju, and rock. But since the Labour Party withdrew from the presidential contest, he ended up competing on the National Conscience Party’s platform and fell short against Goodluck Jonathan in the general elections. They were already making big waves. While overseas he was honored with the title of a large crowd he was dressed in a full admiral uniform on the said day.
Ayobámidélé Abayomi Ojutelégàn Ajani Momodu, also known as Chief Dele Momodu, is a businessman, motivational speaker, and journalist/publisher from Nigeria.
In Ghana, he played the bass for several different highlife bands but in 1969, he decided to go out on his own and formed his own band called ‘Sweet Abby and the Top Hitters’.
Momodu announced in February 2022 that he intended to run for Nigerian president on the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) platform. Juju music is standing alone.
The 2016 show was co-hosted by actor Richard Mofe Damijo and Ovation anchor Daala Oruwari, and it was held at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos. We are ready to encourage them if they do their bits. So, I thought of what next to do to appreciate Him for keeping me at 72 and I decided to give Him the grace and thank Him.
You are relocating from Lagos to Ijebu-Ode, does that mean you are retiring from music?
No.
That is just a change of location. They also came to my place and if they found what they like they took and they even ate in my house. I will be doing my music from Ijebu-Ode. They were friendly to us. As a youth, he was excited by the school of music established by Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and with his school tuition fees, he left to work and study music Ghana where he played bass guitar with several Highlife bands before returning to Lagos.
When Dele Abiodun left Young Pioneers School of Music, in Accra and having worked there too he came back to Nigeria in 1969 to form his first band Sweet Abbey and the Seven Brothers.
To be honest, my family has been very supportive of my life and career.
