Per Yngve "Pelle" Ohlin, better known by his stage name Dead, was born in 1969.

He disliked technology and preferred writing letters by hand instead of using computers.

Conflict with Euronymous and the Tension in Mayhem

By 1991, Dead was living in a remote house near Kråkstad with Euronymous and Hellhammer, where Mayhem rehearsed. Some even speculated he suffered from Cotard’s syndrome, a rare disorder where a person believes they are already dead.

He showed signs of severe depression and self-harm.

Aftermath: Controversy and Infamy

Returning from the city, Aarseth found the door locked and the key missing. After the move, Hellhammer observed that in his free time, Ohlin would draw, read, write letters, or "just sit alone in his room, getting more and more depressed." Additionally, Dead was constantly feuding with Euronymous.

By the time of Mayhem's European tour, Dead was so exhausted that he was experiencing frequent nosebleeds.

Mayhem's guitarist, Øystein Aarseth (Euronymous), remarked in a letter, "I really think Dead is mentally ill. Some believe that his suicide set off a chain reaction of violence and chaos that defined the genre’s darkest period.
