Education

Student, Julliard School Music, 1940. Throughout the 1950s, Oppenheim directed the Masterworks division of Columbia Records, a position he held until 1959. Returning to France in 1973, he exhibited at the Galerie Beauvois in Paris and, in 1974, produced 43 drawings in homage to Léo Ferré, purchased by a Texan collector who then commissioned a box set of lithographs entitledObsession.

In 1975, he met Bob Dylan, who asked him to illustrate the album coverBlood on the TracksBetween 1976 and 1981, he exhibited regularly in France and Germany.

In 1968, Oppenheim embarked on a series of travels that profoundly influenced his art, with exhibitions in Mexico City, London, and Germany.

In Aachen, a passionate industrialist offered him a studio, facilitating the creation and exhibition of his works in galleries such as Siebel and Glaüb.

In 1972, his meeting with Franco Bettazzi in Florence led him to paint exclusively for him for nine months. Under his tenure, the school expanded from four departments to 16 and enrollment climbed from 600 to 3,000 students.

Oppenheim became the second dean of the NYU School of the Arts, serving from February 1969 to 1991. He married Patricia Jaffe in 1987.

Oppenheim died in New York City in 2007.
