Dann Cuellar grew up in Victoria, Texas and studied communications at Victoria College.
A riot caused Dan to retire early due to the injuries he sustained on the job. In 1976, he joined KXIX-TV where he worked as a reporter (including editing) and a cameraman for 2 ½ years.
Cuellar, a father of three, said he plans to first spend time with his family in the coming months and intends to travel.

Cuellar reflected on a range of events he covered during his time at Action News, including the Columbine school shooting massacre in 1999 and the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
He has had his biography written by French author and photojournalist Oliver Pighetti. Do some charitable works in our communities. He enjoyed playing football in elementary school, junior high school, and high school. Cuellar is the latest big name at 6ABC to announce his departure from the Philadelphia area's most-watched TV news station.
At 6abc Action News, Dann has covered major local, national and international events, such as the terrorist attacks in 1993 and 2001 on the World Trade Center in New York City; the massacre at Columbine High School, The Waco Siege and the Oklahoma City bombing on the Murrah Federal Building.
Dann also reported alongside U.S. troops on the frontlines of conflicts including the Persian Gulf War in 1991, the Bosnian conflict in Kosovo in 1995, American Intervention in Haiti, and most recently, the war in Iraq.

On Friday evening, November 18, 2011, Dann Cuellar was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's "Hall of Fame."
