When Larry turns up as planned at the aquarium, Anna is there, but when he describes “their” chat, she disillusions him: “I think you were talking with Daniel Wolf.”
Eventually both men will have sex with both women, occasionally as a round trip back to the woman they started with. Going to the theatre was a staple of Law’s childhood, and his interest in acting was obvious from an early age. And by the end of the film Larry and Anna are back together and Dan and Alice reunite, before splitting again. Ripley acts as if he knows Dickie and spins numerous lies until they become close friends.
While we will never know what it was like to be alive during the Civil War, Cold Mountain gives us a glimpse of how difficult life truly was.
In addition to Law, Kidman and Zellweger, the film’s cast is rounded out with Natalie Portman, Brendan Gleeson, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland and Giovanni Ribisi.
Closer (2004)
Out of all the films on Jude Law‘s resume, Closer has to be one of my favorite.
By the late 1980s, Law was a regular on the stage at the prestigious National Youth Music Theatre, or NYMT. Alice seems the most innocent and blameless of the four until the very end of the movie, when we are forced to ask if everything she did was a form of stripping, in which much is revealed, but little is surrendered.
While his film career continues to grow, Law has proven to be an actor of range and substance.
What are some of your favorite Jude Law performances? The traditional Sherlock tales depict Sherlock and Watson as separate entities who happen to work together. ‘He was a private person’ means he was gay.
The interaction between Law and Downey is one of magic and is not a tad bit forced. After working in America, Jude Law would return to England to star in a couple independent films that were not critically received. The film, like the play on which it is based, has been seen by some as a modern and tragic version of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte's 1790 opera Così fan tutte, with references to the opera in both the plot and the soundtrack.
Starting with a strong resume as supporting actor and making his way to leading man, Law has proven to be an eclectic actor who can work in any genre.
