He later pursued higher education, receiving a bachelor's degree in economics, a master's degree from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, and subsequently a doctorate in administration from Nanjing University Business School. 2000 - Dec. 2000: Deputy Secretary of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee; Suzhou Mayor; Secretary of the CPC Working Committee of Suzhou Industrial Park.

Subsequently, he was appointed Governor of Shaanxi Province, a position he held from October 2004 to June 2006.

Chen Deming (陈德铭Chén DémíngChinese; born 1949) is a Chinese former politician who held key roles shaping China's economic policy and cross-strait relations within the framework of the People's Republic of China's political system. He served as Minister of Commerce and later became the President of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).

He started his professional career in April 1969.
