Although he lived and worked for the majority of his life in his native Chichester, Powell early on adopted the Dutch style for many of his paintings. In 1997, we got pregnant with Charlie and returned to Jacksonville—so our kids could grow up around our families. When I wasn’t in class, I worked the morning preload for Ma’ Brown.
A self-taught artist, Powell achieved a high level of achievement during his career. That was 8 years ago. 2 years passed and to make a real long story short, a fortune 500 company offered me a VP’s position with a 6-figure salary, 6-figure signing bonus, etc. Powell travelled extensively, painting Plymouth, Southampton, Portsmouth and other subjects in the English shipping Channel.
Charles Powell married and had eight children. He is known to have painted scenes in the Mediterranean and he visited Holland frequently: the Dutch marine artists provided much of his inspiration. School was the avenue that allowed me to play. ‘Where the River Ends” is my 6th novel.

The British artist Charles Martin Powell was born in Chichester, England and was a self-taught artist.
When not a single educational institution in Jacksonville would hire me (including my alma mater, Bolles High School), my brother-in-law had mercy on me and gave me a job selling insurance. Powell's work is rarely offered for sale because ownership usually is guarded by collectors who have recognized his superior quality. Transferred to Florida State and tried to become a student.
This and his obvious knowledge of Dutch coastal vessels suggests he lived and trained at one time in Holland.
Powell usually painted generalized subjects, but he also painted many historical scenes. Through high school, football was my life. He exhibited at both the Royal Academy and the British Institution.
Nearly all of Powell's exhibited paintings were marines painted from nature and he exhibited at both the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Christy and I married in 1993, we drove to Virginia Beach, where she put me through Grad school.

C.M. Not very good, but it allowed me an outlet. His work is to be found in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich; the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
