In 1984, he moved to New Orleans to be with his partner, Jack Sullivan.
Two scholarships he endowed are annually given to LGBT students in Louisiana.
While at Purdue he attended a lecture by Bill Gates and afterwards suggested to his parents that they consider investing in the first public offering of Microsoft. He felt his metal leaf paintings took on a life of their own as the metals continued to patina over time.
As far as I know he was healthy to the last bit but still a goner.

Biography by Wikipedia
Brixton Karnes was an American actor who starred as Steve Letourneau in the 2000 made-for-TV movie The Mary Kay Letourneau Story, as well as the team leader in the short-lived Team Knight Rider, a 1997–1998 TV series based on the original Knight Rider series.
Once, having failed to prepare for a piano competition, he won first prize by simply extemporaneously composing and playing a piece of his own.
Many of his paintings, even those at first appearing to be purely abstract, dealt with AIDS, homelessness and Catholic iconography.
Although his early paintings were done in acrylics, his trademark medium became metallic leaf.
He devoted much of his free time to volunteer work in the areas of AIDS and homelessness.
His intelligence was recognized early on when he tested extraordinarily high on standardized tests. Holding me up.
Our passage now is evermore. While having been in some notable films such as Tank Girl (1995), he has primarily had recurring character or one-time appearances on American TV shows like Without a Trace, JAG, Silk Stalkings, Pensacola: Wings of Gold, and Father Dowling Mysteries.
In the last years of his life, as HIV took a greater and greater toll on him, he painted more rarely and began creating computer generated artwork. He acquired a Midwestern accent despite having spent very little time in the Midwest.
A cenotaph was erected in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans on which is inscribed his name and that of his partner as well as the words of his poem, Evermore:
I will walk unlonely.
He travelled a bit and was winning some Tattoos competitions (I hope it improved his self-confidence).
Brixton definitely liked the sports, so I have seen some records of him getting Pilates Instructor Certificate and a Certificate of a Breathing facilitator.
In 1992, he completed a design for an AIDS memorial. in 1987, after trying himself in theatre and other commercials in New York Brixton moved to Los Angeles for more opportunities (full of joy and expectations).
According to IMDB his first TV appearance as an actor was in The Twilight Zone (TV Series) in 1986.
