Ratzan was executive director of Business Partners for Sustainable Development, a group launched by United States Council for International Business to accelerate action on SDGs.[6] Ratzan is the executive director of Business Partners to CONVINCE, a USCIB initiative promoting vaccine acceptance globally.[7]
Ratzan assisted in the development of Text4Baby, a national health-related text messaging service for pregnant women.[8]

Over the last five years at Anheuser-Busch InBev, he was the architect of a ground-breaking approach to help reduce harmful drinking. He is adjunct professor at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.[2] He is also adjunct clinical professor of public health and community medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine.[3]

Ratzan is a co-author of the term health literacy adopted by HHS and integrated in the U.S. Affordable Care Act, defined as "the degree to which an individual has the capacity to obtain, communicate, process, and understand basic health information and services to make appropriate health decisions." His books include the Mad Cow Crisis: Health and the Public Good, Attaining Global Health: Challenges and Opportunities, and AIDS: Effective Health Communication for the 90s.
