Jerry’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. Representative works include Phoenix and Prayer for the Great Family written for the British vocal ensemble, Electric Phoenix; Mount Hope in Autumn premiered by the R.I. Philharmonic Orchestra; Piano Trio #1 commissioned by the N.E.A.

He also spent time as an assistant coach in football and wrestling, assisted in starting the hockey program in 1968, and was a drivers ed teacher for several years in the summer.

Jerry was a natural teacher, mentor, and role model to so many people he came in contact with. His principal teachers of composition during this period were Darius Milhaud, Mort Subotnick, Karlheinze Stockhausen, and Nadia Boulanger.

No one he met was a stranger to him; he was respected and remembered by all who came in contact with him.

In retirement, Jerry enjoyed golf, his cabin on Lake Superior, traveling, and winters in Tucson, AZ. He remained active to the very end; exercising for at least an hour every day.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Jerry 11:00 AM Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Roseville Lutheran Church, 1215 W.

Gerald "Jerry" Boldt

Gerald “Jerry” Boldt, 87, of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital.

Jerry was a member of the Jackson Lion Club and was former president of the Village of Jackson.

Jerry Boldt, age 92 of Roseville, MN, very lovingly missed and remembered by family and friends, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 7, 2025.

Preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Lois (Kubesh); his parents, Henry and Jean Boldt, and two sisters, Marilyn Idle and Lois Hollenbach.

Survived by wife of 36 years, Diane; son, Steve (Julie Bisch); daughter, Barb (Rick Huelsman); two step-daughters, Suzanne (Scott Rajavuori) and Kristin (Mike Albrecht); brother, Tom (Mary), 9 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a 1950 graduate of Wilson High School in St.

Paul, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Macalester College in 1959, and a Master’s Degree from St. Thomas in 1965.

An outstanding athlete at a very young age, Jerry received numerous awards along the way, and played professional baseball in the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago White Sox organizations in 1951 and 1952.

In-between playing pro baseball and his college years, Jerry served for two years in the Army and spent time in Korea during the Korean War in 1953.

Jerry had an outstanding career as a teacher at Columbia Heights High School for 34 years, and was the head baseball coach for 29 of those years, winning two North Suburban Conference championships and a state tournament appearance in 1978.

Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Those Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory include his three children, Kristine (Patrick) Riebe of Kendall, Korrine (Gene) Zimmerman of Jackson, and Kurtis (Debra) Boldt of Jackson; five grandchildren, Brandee (Chad) Michels, Tanya (Travis) Watry, Chad Zimmerman, Collin (Brooke) Boldt, and Conner (Julia Stier) Boldt; eight great-grandchildren, Conner, Alissa, Beckett, Charlotte, Mildred, Levi, Chad Jr., and Emerson; two brothers, Robert (Beatrice) Boldt and John (Patty) Boldt; a sister, Patricia (Herbert) Sponholz; two brothers-in-law, Ronald (Darlene) Boeldt and Randall (Jayne) Boeldt; sister-in-law, Sherry (Roger) Sauter; other relatives and friends.

Private interment will occur at Roselawn Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial to your favorite charity is preferred.

He loved hunting and his annual Elk hunting trip to Colorado, camping, and playing his guitar. He then was the owner and operator of Hopps N Schnapps/Do-it-Best Hardware in Jackson.

Recent performances have taken place at Brown University, Wesleyan University, Rice University, the Eastman School of Music, the University of Michigan, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Illinois.

Biography

Gerald M. Shapiro was born in Philadelphia in 1942 and attended public schools there. In addition to professional performances, Shapiro’s music is often programmed by University and conservatory ensembles.

Shapiro’s compositions are regularly performed at concerts in the United States and around the world.

A funeral service in remembrance of Jerry will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Avenue, in West Bend. In 1967 he accepted a position at Brown University where he remains, currently as professor of Music.
