Garland next wed former bandleader and club manager Mickey Deans in March 1969.

Across these years, there were eleven-hundred "live" appearances. At her request, Gene Kelly made his motion picture debut opposite her in For Me and My Gal (1942); they teamed again in The Pirate (1948) and Summer Stock (1950). Despite moments of happiness, Garland's relationships were often fraught with conflict and emotional distress.

Understandably, that decade of pressure took its toll, as well.

After her passing in 1969, her estate continued to generate income through residuals from her films, music sales, and shows celebrating her legacy.

She quickly remarried that November to actor Mark Herron, who briefly served as her tour promoter. High-rated and acclaimed television specials in 1962 and 1963 led to the weekly JUDY GARLAND SHOW series in 1963-64; her own TV work and programs won a total of ten Emmy nominations between 1956 and 1964. 

 

She remains the youngest recipient of the Golden Globes’ Cecil B.

DeMille Award (1962), and that organization had already honored her with a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for A STAR IS BORN (1954).

Amid her grief, Garland continued on her path to stardom.

By the 1950s, Garland's successful Broadway return and her acclaimed concert performances contributed to her income, marking a notable resurgence in her career after her initial struggles with the studio system.

During this time, Garland performed in children’s stage shows multiple times a week, at her mother’s insistence, and was often charged with singing powerful solos.
