Microsoft defended itself, harking back to Gates’ earlier battles with software piracy and proclaiming that such restrictions were a threat to innovation. At the beginning of 1979, Gates moved the company’s operations from New Mexico to Bellevue, Washington, just east of Seattle.

He soon announced the Windows software in an advertising campaign despite having no such program under development at the time.

Bill Gates led the development of Microsoft Windows, first released in November 1985.

He expected everyone in the company to have the same dedication.

His confrontational management style became legend, as he would challenge employees and their ideas to keep the creative process going. Elementary school grades received moderate B and C.

The former couple first met in 1987 at a sales meeting in New York City. After their probation, they were allowed back in the computer lab when they offered to debug the program. Melinda oversaw the foundation’s grant-making and soon became co-chair alongside her father-in-law and Bill.

Bill and Melinda Gates founded their nonprofit in 2000 to support global health initiatives, education, and economic prosperity.

For nearly three decades, as they raised three kids, the entrepreneur was married to Melinda French Gates. The publication ranks him as the 16th wealthiest person in the world. Nine years her senior, the CEO asked her out in a parking lot several weeks later.
