Barry White Car Collection Revealed
Barry White was a soulful music legend with a deep passion for cars.
As soon as he could walk and talk Barry displayed a musical bent, while Darryl became a young thug, terrorising the neighbours. "He promised his baby virtually everything," Dave Marsh remarked in the New Rolling Stone Record Guide, "in a way still acceptable to the FCC."
White grew up in poverty and, like many poor black performers, got his musical start at a local church.
His solo career took off after he got together with arranger, Gene Page and recorded an album called I've Got So Much To Give followed by Stone Gon' and Can't Get Enough. While some later efforts buried his vocals in whiz-bang electronic effects, on The Icon Is Love, White’s deep baritone pipes are upfront in the mix.
It was called Walking In The Rain With The One I Love. He also did a duet album with Glodean James called Barry & Glodean. Nunes heard them and insisted that he re-record and release them as a recording artist. One of the first groups he worked with was the Versatiles who later changed their name to The 5th Dimension.
