Armenian politician
Ashot Tsolaki Navasardyan (Armenian: Աշոտ Ցոլակի Նավասարդյան; March 28, 1950 – November 3, 1997) was an Armenian politician and military commander who founded the Republican Party of Armenia.[1]
Navasardyan was born in Yerevan and graduated from the Faculty of Law of Yerevan State University.
Navasardyan was an advocate of the ideas of the Armenian military leader and nationalist thinker Garegin Nzhdeh.[2] With the rise of the Karabakh movement and the Armenian independence movement, he and other members of the Union for National Self-Determination founded the Army of Independence, an armed group that engaged in violent clashes with Soviet authorities in Armenia and with Azerbaijani forces on the border with Azerbaijan and in Nagorno-Karabakh during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.
He graduated with a specialization in Diplomacy and the History of International Relations.

Navasardyan served as Second Secretary and later First Secretary at the USSR Embassy in the People's Republic of Angola (1976-1983).
He was born in Yerevan on March 28, 1950, and graduated from the Faculty of Law of Yerevan State University.
In 2005, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Armenian delegation at the 11th UNCTAD conference.
Ashot Navasardian was a Soviet Armenian dissident who founded the Republican Party of Armenia on the eve of the second independence of Armenia. The Supreme Court of Armenia exonerated him in 1990 for lack of evidence of a crime. Navasardyan was elected the supreme commander of the Army of Independence.
In 1990, Navasardian founded the Republican Party of Armenia, which he led until his death. He was imprisoned several times by the Soviet authorities for his dissident activities, serving a total of 12 years in prisons. This armed group, of which he was the supreme commander, engaged in violent clashes with Azerbaijani forces on the border with Azerbaijan and in Artsakh during the first war of 1990-1994.
He was finally freed in 1987, and he continued his activities as a member of the council of the Union for National-Self Determination (1988-1989).
He also participated in government delegations to China and Vietnam (1992, 1993) and the presidential delegation of Armenia to Brazil (2002).
Navasardian was an advocate of the ideas of Garegin Nzhdeh, Armenian military leader and nationalist thinker. He was elected to the Supreme Soviet of Armenia in the 1990 elections and to the National Assembly of Armenia in the 1995 parliamentary elections.

Navasardyan's diplomatic career continued as Assistant to the Prime Minister of Armenia for International Affairs (1991-1993), where he received a commemorative medal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
Leadership in Europe and Latin America
He served as Head of the Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia (1995-1996) and Chairman of the Armenia-Argentina Society (1996-1997).
Navasardyan died from a heart attack on November 3, 1997. He led the Armenian party delegation to Hungary (1986) and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia delegation to the United States for the first anniversary of the Spitak earthquake (1989).
As part of the USSR delegation, he attended the 44th and 45th sessions of the UN General Assembly (1989, 1990) and the founding conference of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (1990).
Navasardyan was a member of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the USSR (1991), the European Foreign Ministers' Meeting (1991), and presidential delegations to Latvia, Georgia, and the Russian Federation (1991).
In 1990, he founded the Republican Party of Armenia, which he led until his death. He is buried at Yerablur military cemetery.
