Antonello Manacorda was a founding member of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and its Concert Master for eight years, before studying conducting under Jorma Panula.

He has enjoyed great success with his debuts at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (Le Nozze di Figaro), a new production of Dmitri Tcherniakov’s Der Freischütz at the Bavarian State Opera, his debut at the Semperoper Dresden (Der Freischütz) and a new production of Bizet’s Carmen at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.
With the Kammerakademie Potsdam, Antonello Manacorda has recorded both a Mendelssohn cycle and a Schubert cycle for Sony Classical, both of which were critically acclaimed.

His work centres on the Kammerakademie Potsdam, which he has been Artistic Director of since 2010 and with which he has made a number of award-winning recordings. In the same month, the ensemble released its latest recording with Antonello Manacorda - Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 and 7 - the prelude to a complete recording of the composer’s entire symphonic works, which have long played a central role in the Kammerakademie Potsdam's concert repertoire.
Today, Antonello Manacorda can be heard just as frequently in opera productions at the world’s most important opera houses as he can on the podium of leading symphony orchestras. He was Artistic Director of the Kammerakademie Potsdam (2010–25) and has worked with ensembles including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Munich Philharmonic, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Tonhalle Orchester Zürich.
The complete cycle of all Beethoven symphonies was released by Sony Classical in May 2024.

His debut at the Zurich Opera House with was with Mozart's Nozze di Figaro, while at the Opera de Paris he conducted a new production of Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. Together with the Kammerakademie Potsdam, he brought Weber's Der Freischütz to the stage in an acclaimed concert version on tour in Potsdam, at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berlin Philharmonie.
