Anousheh Ansari, an American of Iranian origin, is the co-founder and CEO of Prodea Systems, Inc.

She was born in Mashhad, Iran, and later moved to Tehran with her parents, where she spent her childhood and youth. She fulfilled the dream of going into space since she was a little girl in Iran. Originally, she was chosen as a backup for Japanese businessman Daisuke Enomoto, who was supposed to be the fourth space tourist. Anousheh Ansari was born in 1966 in Mashhad, Iran.

Ansari became the first female space tourist, the first Muslim woman, and the first Iranian in space. They married in 1991. Ultimately, Anousheh would build a lifetime of accomplishments in a few short decades, from creating a multi-million-dollar business to driving technological change to blasting into space. She co-founded Telecom Technologies, a successful telecommunications company, and later became a key figure in commercial spaceflight through her work with the XPRIZE Foundation and Space Adventures.

The Historic Space Mission: When and Where

On September 18, 2006, Ansari made history when she launched into space aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, becoming the world’s first self-funded female space tourist.

After completing her studies, she found employment at MCI, Inc., where she met her husband, Hamid Ansari. Through public speaking engagements, mentorship programs, and scholarships, she encourages young minds to embrace careers in science and technology.
