Pianista, compositor y escritor.
Reconocido por su técnica asombrosa y su imaginación sin límites, Alex Mercado es aclamado por su capacidad para crear vibrantes paisajes sonoros que han resonado en la crítica y el público, tanto en su natal México como internacionalmente.
Considerado uno de los estandartes del jazz mexicano contemporáneo, ha llevado su música a escenarios de Europa, Asia y América, consolidándose como una de las voces más originales y profundas de la escena actual.
Alex Mercado ha grabado diez discos como líder, entre ellos Perlas de Granizo (2024), Mis Versos en Canciones (2023), Poesía entre Notas (2021), Exilio (2020) y Symbiosis (2014), álbum elogiado por la revista DownBeat.
Ha llevado su música a escenarios de alto prestigio como el North Sea Jazz Festival (Holanda), Prambanan Jazz Festival (Indonesia), Lille Piano Festival (Francia), Turner Sims (Reino Unido), PAP Jazz (Haití), Singapore Jazz in July, Sibiu Jazz Festival (Rumania) y Bray Piano Festival (Irlanda), así como clubes de jazz en Francia, Bélgica, Malasia, Singapur y Estados Unidos.
En México se ha presentado en los principales festivales del país, incluyendo el Festival Internacional Cervantino, Festival del Centro Histórico, Festival Blanco y Negro del Cenart, y debutó en la Sala Principal del Palacio de Bellas Artes en 2019.
Es Artista Yamaha, y formó parte del Sistema Nacional de Creadores del FONCA de 2021 a 2025.
En 2009 fue comisionado para realizar los arreglos orquestales de la apertura del concierto de Sir Elton John en Chichén Itzá, en el que también participó como solista junto a la Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán.
Además de su faceta musical, es autor de dos libros: Arte, conciencia y vida y El sublime proceso del lenguaje musical, donde explora la creación musical desde una perspectiva filosófica y humanista.

A: I began studying classical music at age 13 with Jose Luis Arcaraz, a classical piano teacher who took me under his wing after discovering I had a special talent and predisposition for music.
