Anupam Kher and Padma Lakshmi also appeared in the film. In an Elle interview, Aishwarya revealed she'd taken a break to focus more on her daughter and figure out her next career moves. Both audiences and film critics warmly received the crowned beauty queen's performance in this challenging role and forgave her for the failure of her next film.
Since the beginning of the 2000s, Bollywood cinema has begun to regain its former popularity, largely due to the participation of Aishwarya Rai. Despite critics who claimed her beauty masked a lack of talent and drive, Aishwarya honed her acting skills with each new role, embodying romantic heroines on the screen.
However, Khan denies these allegations and stated in an interview in 2009 that they were untrue. She appeared before the Enforcement Directorate as she served as a director of a company in the British Virgin Islands from 2005 to 2008. Her debut in Indian cinema was the semi-biographical drama "Iruvar," which won the award for "Best Film" at the International Film Festival in Belgrade.
Their romance began while filming Dhoom: 2, where they starred as co-leads.
Shakti Kapoor said Aishwarya traded sexual favours
After a casting couch sting operation involving Shakti Kapoor in 2005, he claimed that Aishwarya Rai had exchanged sexual favors for roles in Subhash Ghai's films. As a result, Rai decided to improve her acting skills and focused on what she excelled at since childhood - dancing.
She invested Rs. 5 crore in 'Possible,' a nutrition-based healthcare startup, and pledged Rs. 1 crore with her mother Vrinda Rai to 'Ambee,' an environment-focused startup in Bengaluru focusing on air quality assessment.
The suitors vying for Mrs. Bakshi's beautiful daughters (played by Nadira Babbar) were Nevin Andrews, Martin Henderson, and Daniel Gillis. In the same year, she caused quite a stir at the Cannes Film Festival. Her first significant step towards conquering Hollywood was her role in the English-language film "Bride and Prejudice," which was based on Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice" adapted to Indian realities.
Two years later, she appeared in a Pepsi commercial that further enhanced her popularity and recognition worldwide. Interestingly, she only spoke one line in the video. 2005's romantic drama The Mistress of Spices didn't win over critics, but audiences embraced it. The beauty contest was held in South Africa, where Aishwarya became the winner, being crowned Miss World, as well as Miss Photogenic.
It is worth noting that within five years since the birth of their daughter, Rai has returned to her previous form (height – 170 cm, weight – 55 kg), and there is no trace of her previous weight of 80 kg.
