Mher (Frunzik) Mkrtchyan, a renowned Armenian actor, public figure, film and theater director, was born on July 4.

Born in Gyumri in 1930, Mher came from humble beginnings.

This is a two-storied building situated in Varpetats street which was opened in 2004. Director Hamasi Martirosyan invited him to appear in the short film “01-99,” where Mher created a character that left a lasting impression on audiences.

Mher Mkrtchyan’s professionalism, ability to portray authentic emotions, and strong sense of national identity in his acting granted him numerous significant roles in Armenian cinema.

His cinema career began in 1955.

His famous roles in Rolan Bykov's Aybolit-66 (1966), Leonid Gaidai's Kidnapping, Caucasian Style (1966), and Georgi Daneliya's Mimino (1977) earned him a reputation as one of the Soviet Union's leading comedy actors. This film was written and directed by his younger brother - Albert Mkrtchyan.
