1872 - Twain moves his family to Hartford, Connecticuit and publishes his book Roughing It about his experiences in the west.

1896 Continues to lecture around the world.

  • Mark Twain publishes Life on the Mississippi a story of his years as a steamboat captain.

  • Twain spends two weeks training in a volunteer Confederate militia before it disbands. Samuel is forced to end his career as a boat pilot.

    1862 - In an adventure later chronicled in the book Roughing It, Twain travels to Nevada with his brother Orion, who had been named the secretary to the territorial governor.

    Mother Jane Lampton Clemens dies. Sales are light. His close friend Henry Huttleston Rogers takes over his finances.

    1895 - Twain goes on a lecture tour to raise money to pay back his debts. Daughter Jean committed to institution. Son Langdon is born. Begins dictating autobiography.

    • Samuel Langhorne Clemens is born in Florida, Missouri.

      He developed a close friendship with Nikola Tesla the famous scientist. He worked as a pilot until the Civil War broke out in 1861. 1861Twain heads out West.

      Charles L. Webster & Co fails.

    • In one year Mark Twain publishes The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and a biography of President Ulysses S. Grant. He fell in love with her at first sight. 1870Twain marries Olivia Langdon in New York.
