In 2016, LeDerick, in collaboration with co-author Margo Vreeburg Izzo, PhD, from The Ohio State University, co-authored the book "Empowering Students with Hidden Disabilities: A Path to Pride and Success," the definitive compendium on transition support for students with LD/ADHD and other hidden disabilities, published by Brookes Publishing Co.
LeDerick Horne's recent grant from the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities (NJCDD) focuses on enhancing information accessibility for Black residents in New Jersey with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
Hear from LeDerick about his experience as a young African American with learning disabilities. But despite his learning disability, LeDerick believed he had something to offer the world. As co-director of this two-year project, he supports Black individuals with I/DD and their families, leveraging his role as co-founder of the Black I/DD Consortium. He has provided support in areas such as strategic planning, youth and young adult engagement related to launching a new product, and improving the outcomes of disability associated events and trainings.
He was labeled “neurologically impaired” and placed in segregated special education classrooms. LeDerick’s work addresses the challenges of all disabilities, uniting the efforts of diverse groups in order to achieve substantive, systemic change.
