Songs are like characters to me. When my parents got divorced at seventeen, songwriting became my outlet to process those feelings. When you look back, is there a particular moment that stands out as especially meaningful or memorable?
Katelyn: Thank you! I’d have to say nearly every lyric in my song “S.L.U.T.S (Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress)” holds a special meaning to me.

      KC: I do produce my own stuff. I’ve had to set some firm boundaries with my phone/social media usage.

      CN:You’ve delved into both Country and Christian music – is there another genre that you’d like to dip your toes in?

      KC: I’ve written so many different kinds of songs for different people. I’ve been producing tracks since I was 16."

      In 2013, Katelyn made the long drive from California to Nashville, TN, returning to her Southern roots to dive headfirst into her country career.

      While on the road, she would make several trips to Nashville to write and produce. I wrote it by myself, and it’s inspired by my now-husband, who has been my rock and my safe space. Then I discovered Brad Paisley’s 5th Gear album, which introduced me to the idea that songs could be heartfelt yet clever and witty. Not long after, Chris Martin from Coldplay sat down right next to me.

      It had a strap that was very chain-like, so it had a cool, tambourine-esque sound to it. From her early days of turning personal experiences into poignant songs to sharing the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards, Katelyn has continuously pushed boundaries as a singer-songwriter. There’ve been so many stressful and anxiety-inducing things happening in the world the last few years that I’ve had to be more assertive about instilling those boundaries and healthy habits.

      It’s so fun putting things like that in the track, knowing that people would never guess how it was made. That record really stoked my passion as a songwriter.
