    Major Vivek Gupta (Maha Vir Chakra, Posthumous) (2 Rajputana Rifles)

    Hailing from Dehradun, this courageous soldier held the command of the leading Charlie Company when the 2 Rajputana Rifles launched a Battalion attack on the Tololing Top in the Drass Sector on June 13, 1999.

    Under his spirited and galvanizing leadership, they managed to close in on the enemy, despite facing a hailstorm of heavy artillery and automatic gunfire.

    Though he lost his life, his leadership and sacrifice remain an everlasting source of pride and inspiration.

      On June 5, the orders were changed, and the battalion was ordered to move to Dras, Jammu and Kashmir.

      Batra was instrumental in recapturing Peak 5140, which overlooks the Tololing nullah. He continued his relentless advance, reaching the enemy position where he engaged in hand-to-hand combat, killing three enemy soldiers despite his severe injuries.
