Background
He was born on May 18, 1936 as the son of Kurukkattumanakkal Vamanan Namboothiri and Neettiyathu Janakiamma, at Peringode, Palakkad.
Later, he was trained by the prominent percussion practitioners like Thiruvillwamala Venkinchan Swami and Moothamana Kesavan Namboodiri, who polished his skills in percussion. After he had graduated in Kalamandalam, he worked as a performer in RLV Academy, Kala Sadanam and Chunangad. He was born on May 18, 1936, in Peringode, Palakkad to Neettiyathu Janakiamma and Vamanan Namboothiri.
Some of his notable works are Melam, Karkodakan, Niyogam, Edakkayude Dukkham, etc. During 1999, he acted in the award-winning Indian-French-German film, Vanaprastham – The Last Dance, which stars Mohanlal.

Since then he acted in a number of films including The Car, Don Bosco, Nadan Pennum Nattupramaniyum, Varavai, Saivar Thirumeni and Oru Katha Pole.He was also seen in some films including Saiver Thirumeni, Swapnam Kondu Thulaabhaaram, Saudaamini and more.
Kesavan got married to Parvathy and had four children. Now he is working on "Kirathasoonucharitham" Kathakali which is written by Kottarathil Sankunni.

Kalamandalam Kesavan is an Indian actor, playwright and Kathakali Percussionist.
In 1997, he acted as the grandfather of Sreelakshmi in the Malayalam film, The Car, which stars Jayaram, Sona Nair and Janardhanan. They had a daughter and two sons.

He was the recipient of Kerala Kalamandalam Award, Kala Sahithya Academy Award for his Collection of poems Thenthully, Ravunni Menon Memorial Award and N.K.
Pisharadi Award.
Early life of Kalamandalam Kesavan Namboodiri
Kalamandalam Kesavan Namboodiri was first trained by his uncle Neettiyath Govindan Nair who prepared him in percussion. Kalamandalam also worked as a professor at the FACT Kathakali School for three decades, where he became popular as a percussionist and established himself as a writer and Kathakali playwright.
They had a daughter and two sons. He directed the Kathakali "Sreekrishnaavatharam" which is written by Nalloorpalli Vamanan Namboodiri and presented in a lot of stages. He was married to Parvathy. However, it didn’t go well after Kalamandalam met an accident.
