Allen is a strong advocate of early intervention in social issues.

He wrote "Early Intervention, good parents, great kids, better citizens" with Iain Duncan-Smith in 2009. In 1995 he wrote "Reinventing Democracy" and in November 2002 he published The Last Prime Minister: Being Honest About the United Kingdom Presidency, claiming that the United Kingdom effectively had a presidency.

He argued that the Prime Minister (or "President", as he referred to the office throughout the book) should be directly and separately elected in order for a better separation of powers.

This new arrangement, he argued, would be best spelled out "in plain English" in a written constitution.

He studied at the University of Leeds, earning a BA in Politics and Sociology in 1975. He graduated from City of London Polytechnic, and received an Master of Arts from the University of Leeds.

Career

He joined the Labour Party in 1971 whilst working as a warehouse worker He worked from 1978 to 1983 as a Research Officer with the Labour Party.

Allen strongly opposed the Labour government’s decision to engage in the Iraq War in 2003.

Graham Allen, born on 11 January 1953, is a British politician associated with the Labour Party.
He served as the Member of Parliament for the Nottingham North constituency from 1987 to 2017.
Allen decided not to run for re-election in the 2017 general election, marking his retirement from Parliament.
He hails from Nottingham, England, and received his education at Nottingham High School, a grammar school.
Allen obtained a BA in Politics and Sociology from the University of Leeds in 1975 and subsequently worked as a research officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL).

Graham William Allen is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament for Nottingham North since 1987.
