Who Is Dr Shrikar Pardeshi?
Hailing from Pune, Dr Pardeshi is a 2001-batch IAS officer celebrated for his honesty and dutifulness.
Shrikar Pardeshi, a distinguished IAS officer from the 2001 batch, has earned a stellar reputation for his unwavering commitment to integrity and transparency throughout his career. As a result, he had received a slew of threat to his life. Following complaints from citizens — an issue which was often highlighted by The Indian Express — Pardeshi made it mandatory to issue tickets in round figure of Rs 5, Rs 10, Rs 15 and Rs 20.
“Like Pardeshi, no IAS officer before him had taken stern action against illegal constructions of top political leaders. But Pardeshi introduced the system of issuing tickets in round figure of Rs 5, Rs 10 and so on. Despite threats to his life, Pardeshi did what he thought was right,” said advocate Sushil Mancharkar.
And when he was given the charge of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), the city’s transport body, Pardeshi took the historic decision relating to the issue of tickets on buses.
His dedication to tackling corruption and illegal activities has been central to his career.
In 2015, Dr. Pardeshi’s administrative prowess caught the attention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), where he served as Deputy Secretary for six years. He played a pivotal role in the formulation and implementation of policies that had a nationwide impact.
The Return to Maharashtra: A Crucial Role in Governance
In 2022, Dr.
Pardeshi returned to Maharashtra as Secretary in the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office under Devendra Fadnavis. He had earned the nickname, Demolition Man. Though the city started breathing freely and development got a push, some quarters did not like his initiatives. With a keen interest in governance and public health, he earned a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and a Master’s in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
He quickly established himself as a reformist, ensuring that governance remained transparent and effective.
One of his initial assignments was as the Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad from 2012 to 2014.
After returning to Maharashtra in 2021, he took on a pivotal role before being appointed as Secretary to Maharashtra’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, in 2022.
With his wealth of experience and a reputation for efficient governance, Dr. Pardeshi’s appointment is expected to strengthen the CM’s office, bringing a fresh, results-driven approach to Maharashtra’s administration.

In this role, he was instrumental in streamlining revenue collection, increasing state earnings through reforms in registration and stamping procedures.
Recognizing his expertise, he was later appointed to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in 2015, where he served as Director and Joint Secretary. Commuters did not possess the loose change but the conductors used to insist that they pay the required change.
